A Message From Our New Director

Thank you for choosing Monticello Academy for your child.  We realize you now have many school choices, including your neighborhood school, and we are glad your student is here with us.

As the original founder and creator of Monticello Academy, I am excited to have been asked by the Board of Trustees to return and serve as Executive Director.  As announced last week, I will oversee the general operations of the school, which will include expanding to satellite campuses and providing additional options for academic rigor and excellence, such as concurrent enrollment and Advanced Placement.  Our primary objective is to fulfill the promises made to you as parents and to the State of Utah when we chartered, namely, to provide an academically rigorous, college preparatory program with high standards of excellence.

We currently have some outstanding talent on our teaching and administration team. Additionally, I am actively interviewing for the Director position to assist with the day to day operations, and I hope to make an announcement soon.  We are also meeting with teachers and planning for next year.  You may have heard the local districts are raising their teacher salaries significantly, and we are working to do the same so we can remain competitive in retaining and recruiting great teachers.  We are poised to finish this year strong, and we will be ready to head into next year even better motivated and prepared to achieve our core mission.

I appreciate the parents who have taken me up on my open-door policy and who have expressed both satisfaction and concerns with our school operations.  In consideration of the feedback from parents and staff, in the coming days you will see some reminders and clarification of policies where there have been widespread misunderstandings.  For example, you will receive information regarding picking up and dropping off your students, the MA uniform policy, academic placement of your student, and behavioral interventions.

For 11 years now, Monticello Academy has been an excellent choice for families seeking an education for their children that is challenging above many other school choices, with the ambitious goal of preparing their young minds for college.  We appreciate your choice to attend Monticello Academy, and we are grateful for your ongoing, supportive partnership in the education of your children.

Respectfully,

Kim Coleman

Executive Director, Monticello Academy

School Board Announces New Director

As you may be aware, Dr. Cox and his wife have been called to serve an LDS temple mission in Mexico beginning in April. As a school, we wish them well in their retirement and we hope they enjoy their service in that beautiful part of the world. We especially wish to thank Dr. Cox for his years of service to Monticello.

As a result of his retirement, Mrs. Kim Coleman was appointed during the January meeting of the Monticello Academy Board of Trustees to succeed Dr. Cox as the executive director of Monticello Academy. Her official duties became effective upon his departure before Spring Break.

As the creator and founder of the school, Mrs. Coleman authored the school charter and she is deeply committed to the mission and the original vision of Monticello Academy. She has been working closely with Dr. Cox, Mr. Shino, and Mrs. Davis since early December to understand every aspect of our current operations and to enable a seamless transition. We are very grateful she was willing to accept this assignment and we are highly confident in her ability to oversee the whole school program and help us achieve the high expectations we have at Monticello Academy.

One of Mrs. Coleman’s first responsibilities this spring is to interview qualified candidates and hire a new school director (principal) for the next school year. Under her direction, this position will be primarily responsible for the execution of our academic programs, and to continually improve the day to day teaching and learning of our students. We anticipate the other members of the school administration team will remain in place through the end of the school year, and we express our gratitude for their continued service as well.

Feel free to take a moment to introduce yourself when you see Mrs. Coleman at the school. We look forward to great things in the years to come!
